The short answer is: yes. A survey conducted in 2023 showed that a home office is likely to add 5-10% to the value of your home whilst a separate garden office can add £22,000 in value to your property.

If you have the space to add a garden office, expect to spend in the region of £9,000 for a well fitted structure. It’s worth considering if the space if adequately weatherproofed, has capability for WIFI and electrics and how best to lay out the space so potential buyers can use it as intended.

If you’re tight on outdoor space, it could be worth taking a look inside your existing property and thinking about how you’re currently using your space. Is there a box room that barely fits a single bed? If so, laying this out as a home office instead could actually make your home more attractive to potential buyers. Or perhaps there’s a smaller reception or dining room downstairs that might function better as a work space? Ask your agent to help you look at your property with fresh eyes and you might be surprised at the effect it has when it comes time for viewings.
